Commuter Assemblage

Commuter Assemblage is a multi modal transportation center designed to seamlessly merge pedestrian, bicycle, automobile, bus, and train transportation into a single node that blurs the lines between each system. Rather than create a structure that closes itself off to the city, the station merges with the urban landscape as sidewalks, streets and railways flow into the structure and the landscape.

This multi modal network is created through the weaving of varying lines of transportation. Where these transportation lines influence or meet to form a connection or node, they are ornamented through a process of threading which does not create opposing lines of interest, but harmoniously connects these opposing lines to create a networked organism. The structure’s order is not limited to the construction of the building but flows through the site. The structural systems evolves from the site acting as the bones that both hold the site and the building together. The rigorous grid in plan is strictly adhered to at all levels. The play in form is evident in the vertical manipulation of the structure, and the complex circulation system.
